Location:

  • The first photo shows an Afghan speaking with an Afghan National Army soldier and an interpreter about the welfare of his community in the village of Akbar Kheyl, Pole-Elam district, Logar province, Afghanistan.

The mission was to communicate with village leaders and assess humanitarian conditions.
  • The fourth photo shows U.S. Army soldiers from the Ground Combat Platoon, Echo company, 4-3 Aviation Battalion along with Afghan National Army soldiers maneuvering into the village of Akbar Kheyl, Pole-Elam district, Logar province, Afghanistan, March 18. The U.S. Army and A.N.A. are conducting a Key Leader Engagement with the village elders in order to check on conditions in the village.
  • The fifth photo pictures a qalat compound sits on top of a hill in the village of Akbar Kheyl, Pole-Elam district, Logar province, Afghanistan, March 18.
  • The sixth photo shows a U.S. Army soldier from the Ground Combat Platoon, Echo company, 4-3 Aviation Battalion prepareing to throw a smoke grenade in order to signal an aircraft to pick his platoon up following a Key Leader Engagement that he conducted in the village of Akbar Khey.
  • The seventh photo shows an Afghan National Army soldier pulling security while waiting for a CH-47 Chinook rotary wing aircraft to land and board his patrol into it near the village of Akbar Kheyl.
  • The final photo shows U.S. Army soldiers from the Ground Combat Platoon, Echo Company, 4-3 Aviation Battalion and Afghan National Army soldiers speaking with local Afghans in the village of Akbar Kheyl.
