- In the first photo, the littoral combat ship USS Freedom comes alongside the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson for a refueling at sea. Freedom at the time was conducting counter-illicit trafficking operations and Carl Vinson is supporting Southern Seas 2010. Southern Seas is a U.S. Southern Command-directed operation that provides U.S. and international forces the opportunity to operate in a multi-national environment.
- In the second photo, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, right, performs tactical maneuvering exercises with the Military Sealift Command fast combat support ship USNS Rainier, the guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill and the littoral combat ship USS Freedom.
