Summer Storm 2011


08/31/2011: One of the key advantages of having an amphibious fleet is the ability to support coalition operations.  This slideshow shows a Romanian Navy Super Puma (IAR 330) helicopter touching down on the flight deck of USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41) during Summer Storm 2011, a combined amphibious assault exercise, July 31.Whidbey Island is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
