Honor Our Warfighters…The Air Force Cycling Classic Returns!

04/25/2012

Professional bicycle racing comes to the Washington DC area again this June in the form of the Air Force Cycling Classic.

This annual event, with roots dating back 15 years, will be held in Arlington, VA on June 9th and 10th.

The Air Force Cycling Classic Returns.

The 2012 event features a new partnership between race organizer Arlington Sports, Inc and the Air Force Association.

In addition to having the opportunity to watch top professional and amateur bike racers, everyone will have the opportunity to hop on a bike and do some riding on the course…and do it for a good cause.

The Air Force Cycling Classic has always had an important fundraising component, focused on supporting those who put on the uniform in defense of our nation and freedom around the world.  In past years, charitable proceeds from the race have gone to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the Air Force Aid Society.  This year is no different…with charitable proceeds benefitting the Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Initiative.

With the committed support of Presenting Sponsor Boeing as well as other loyal sponsors, racing gets underway on Saturday, June 9th at 8 AM at the Air Force Cycling Classic Clarendon Cup, with men’s and women’s professional and amateur events.

The course literally surrounds the Clarendon Metro Stop, so transportation to and from the event is a snap.

The Air Force Cycling Challenge Crystal Ride begins at 7:30 AM Sunday, June 10th.

The Crystal Ride provides the opportunity for spectators, bike enthusiasts and families to ride the course…and raise money for a very worthy cause.

Join Team Sabre and support the Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Initiative.

If your business wants to participate as a team, consider competing in the Navy Federal Credit Union Corporate Challenge.

The racing gets underway at 11:30 AM on the 10th with men’s and women’s professional and amateur events throughout the afternoon.  The race course runs through the center of Crystal City.

The United States Air Force Memorial continues to play a prominent role in this weekend of racing.

The Memorial serves as the start for the Men’s Pro Race on Sunday and is on the course for the Crystal Ride.  The Crystal Ride course has been modified this year so to take riders by the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial as well.
