05/26/2015: Amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) arrives at White Beach Naval Facility joining USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group (ARG).

Green Bay along with USS Ashland (LSD 48) are part of the Bonhomme Richard ARG on deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

Marines Work With Malaysian Armed Forces

05/24/2015: U.S. Marines run to an MV-22B Osprey for extraction Feb. 27 during a theater security cooperation event.

During the event, the Marines executed a vertical assault where they engaged targets with M16 service rifles, M240B medium machine guns and Shoulder-launched Multipurpose Assault Weapons with support from 60 mm mortars.

Concurrently, UH-1Y “Huey” helicopters demonstrated live fire and close air support using GAU-17/A Gatling gun, GAU-21 .50-caliber machine gun and 70 mm rocket fire.

 

The Marines seen are with Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and are seen conducting the annual Spring Patrol of the Asia-Pacific region.

The Ospreys are with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and the Marines are with Company E, Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st MEU.

The Marines of the 31st MEU are seen on their annually-scheduled Spring Patrol of the Asia-Pacific region.

Helo Visit, Board, Search and Seizure Exercise

05/20/2015: The “Chargers” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 14 and the “Raptors” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71 conduct a Helicopter Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (HVBSS) training exercise with a Range Support Craft (RSC) 1 in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego, Feb. 18, 2015.

The exercise was part of the Helicopter Advanced Readiness Program (HARP) in preparation for the squadron’s deployment with Carrier Air Wing Nine (CVW-9) in support of the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) and Carrier Strike Group Three (CSG-3) operations.

Lt. Gen. John Wissler Discusses Huey Crash in Nepal

05/20/2015: Lt. Gen. John W. Wissler talks at a press conference about the found Huey that went missing after conducting casualty evacuations when Nepal was struck with a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, May 15 at Kathmandu, Nepal.

The aircraft carried six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers.

The U.S. troops are part of Joint Task Force 505 in Nepal conducting earthquake relief operation Sahayogi Haat.

Wissler is the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force.

24th MEU Marines Depart USS New York for French Bilateral Training in Djibouti

05//2015: Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Dennis Lewis watches a landing craft air cushion return to the well deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) after transporting 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit gear and personnel assigned to Djibouti for bilateral training with the French, May 6, 2015.

The 24th MEU is embarked on the ships of the Iwo Jima ARG and is deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
