Hawaii F-22 Squadrons Launch Record Number of Sorties

04/09/2013: F-22’s flown by the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 199th Fighter Squadron and the active duty Air Force’s 19th Fighter Squadron take off during an early morning 14-ship sortie rotation.

The squadrons launched and recovered a record number of sorties which is the most executed by these squadrons on a single day since the conversion to the F-22s.

The sortie ‘surge’ took place as the units were being readied to declare Full Operational Capability, April 7.

Marines Train for Breaching, Demolition Operations

04/07/2013: Marines with Bridge Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group trained for door breaching and demolition operations at a range aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 18, 2013.

The Marines utilized shotguns and various explosive devices throughout the training.

04/02/2013: U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, conduct small arms tactics with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force as part of Exercise Iron Fist 2013, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. Jan. 24, 2013.

During Iron Fist 2013, the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Western Army Infantry Regiment, JGSDF spent several weeks participating in bilateral training to improve their interoperability, enhance military-to-military relations and sharpen skills essential to crisis response.

USCG Deals with Illegal Fishing

03/15/2013: Crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Shearwater conduct boardings in the waters outside the Chesapeake Bay, near Virginia Beach, Va., Jan. 9, 2013.

The boardings were in support of Operation Striper Swiper, an initiative to curtail the illegal fishing of the of the Atlantic striped bass.

Coast Guard Cutter Forward Returns to Homeport

03/11/2013: The Coast Guard Cutter Forward returns to homeport in Portsmouth, Va., Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, after a 45-day patrol in the Caribbean Sea in support of Operation Martillo.

The law enforcement crews aboard the Forward teamed with crew members from the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence and an embarked aviation detachment from Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron to counter two illicit tracking interdictions leading to the seizure of more than $50 million in narcotics.
