02/27/2013: The Afghan Air Force’s southern wing in Kandahar is a crucial hub for supporting Afghan security forces as they increasingly conduct missions in the lead or solo in the country’s most conflict-ridden area.

VMFA-121 F-35B Lightning II first operational flight

02/27/2013: Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 (VMFA-121) conducted its first operational F-35B Lightning II flight at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., Feb. 21, 2013.

VMFA-121 joined Marine Aircraft Group 13, Third Marine Aircraft Wing, in November 2012 as the Corp’s first operational F-35B squadron.

31st MEU Leads Multinational Evacuation Exercise

02/23/2013: Marines and Sailors of Combat Logistics Battalion 31 and Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), both of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, execute a non-combatant evacuation operation and a transportation of Japanese nationals overseas exercise alongside soldiers of the Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, and Malaysian militaries as part of exercise Cobra Gold 2013.

The multinational force processed simulated evacuees through multiple security and processing stations before evacuating them on CH-46E Sea Knight and CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters.
