26th MEU Working with the French

U.S. Marines with Light Armored Reconnaissance, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment (BLT 2/6), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) and integrative training with French partners in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations, April 4, 2018. 

The 26th MEU trains to sustain expeditionary readiness across a range of critical capabilities both afloat and ashore in order to be prepared to respond to crisis in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations.

F-35s at Friendship Day

Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 perform a flight demonstration. 

This aerial demonstration was conducted during the annual  Friendship Day air show at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan on May 5, 2018.

The flight marked the first time an F-35B Lightning II  conducted an aerial demonstration in the Pacific region.

MCAS Iwakuni Hosts Friendship Day, 2018

Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, hosts the 42nd Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force – MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day, at MCAS Iwakuni May 5, 2018. 

Since 1973, MCAS Iwakuni has held a single-day air show designed to foster positive relationships and offer an exciting experience that displays the communal support between the U.S. and Japan. 

The air show also encompassed various U.S. and Japanese static display aircraft, aerial performances, food and entertainment.

Exercise Frisian Flag 2018

Between 9 and the 20th of April, a large exercise was held at Leeuwarden Air Base in the Netherlands. 

The exercise is called Frisian Flag 2018. 

Participating aircraft from several countries in the world will be airborne twice a day.

Frisan Flag is designed to train pilots and crews for operating together in demanding combat situations

The participants were varied.

First of course are the Dutch with their own F-16s.

Second, the German Air Force sent Eurofighters.

Third, the French sent Mirage 2000 and Rafale fighter aircraft.

Fourth, the Spanish sent their F-18s.

The Poles sent F-16s and Mig-29s.

And the USAF sent 12 Air National Guard F-15s.

 

 

The MEU’s Ground Combat Element

MEDITERRANEAN SEA (April 14, 2018) 

U.S. Marines assigned to Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) maintain mission readiness aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) April 14, 2018. 

Marines conduct mission rehearsals to maintain a constant state of readiness and improve their techniques, tactics, and procedures while deployed to U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. 

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.

Stinger Trainer Launch Simulator Shoot at Sea

U.S. Marines with Marine Air Control Group (MACG) 28 Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) Detachment, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (Reinforced), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct a Stinger Trainer Launch Simulator (STLS) shoot aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) in the Mediterranean Sea, March 23, 2018. 

Iwo Jima and the 26th MEU are conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
