Operation Open Spirit

09/08/2017: Operation Open Spirit is an annual mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operation in the Baltic Sea.

This year it takes place in Latvia and involves participants from 10 countries including dive teams from the host nation as well as Canada, Estonia, Norway and the United Kingdom.

The aim of the operation is to clear World War One and World War Two mines that could pose a threat to shipping and fisheries, from the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

The operation also means that dive teams from different nations come together and share equipment, experience and techniques with each other.

Several partners sponsored the 2nd annual Eastern National Robot Rodeo (ENRR) and Capabilities Exercise (CAPEX).

This event was co-hosted by Dobbins ARB and the Transportation Security Administration at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group Prepares for Operations

09/06/2017: The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) completed composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX), the final work-up phase and certification event prior to deployment scheduled later this year.

Over the course of a month, the TRCSG sailed upwards of 7,500 nautical miles, launched over 1,700 fixed wing aircraft, conducted nine replenishments-at-sea, exchanged 4,756,000 gallons of fuel and transferred 1,808 pallets of cargo.

Theodore Roosevelt embarked with 4,700 personnel aboard, hosted 198 distinguished visitors and sailed with 60 plus aircraft belonging to nine squadrons.

Australian Naval Shipbuilding Plan: Osborne South Surface Warship Facilities

09/04/2017: The Australian Government has unveiled the design and turned the first sod for the new surface shipbuilding yard in Osborne, South Australia.

This is the latest in a series of significant announcements supporting the delivery of a continuous naval shipbuilding program in Australia.

The unveiling of the design for this $535 million project is an exciting insight into the future of Osborne’s shipyards that is a result of this Government’s $89 billion investment in our future shipbuilding industry.

The Government has also finalised the purchase of the initial tranche of state-owned land and facilities and has also received State planning consent for construction of the new shipbuilding infrastructure.

The infrastructure expansion and upgrades are a fundamental enabler of the construction of the Future Frigates and are key to delivering a continuous naval shipbuilding program which will support thousands of Australian jobs.

HC-130J Gets Escorted by F-22’s

08/25/2017: Members of the 176th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard, traveled to South Carolina to take possession of a new HC-130J “Combat King II” aircraft from Lockheed Martin.

Once over Alaska airspace, two F-22 Raptors from the U.S. Air Force’s 3rd Wing escorted the new HC-130J and its passengers to its new home at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska.
