31st MEU Maritime Raid Force Exercise

02/18/2013: The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Maritime Raid Force conducted its annual Realistic Urban Training Exercise on an empty facility on Guam.

The purpose for conducting such an exercise in a different country is to evaluate the MRF’s long-range raid capabilities, executing operations in a foreign environment.

31st MEU, Thai Marines Complete Helicopter Raid

02/18/2013: Marines and Sailors of Company C., Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, execute a helicopter raid alongside their Thai counterparts as part of exercise Cobra Gold 2013.

The U.S. and Thai Marines inserted together via CH-53E Super Stallion and CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters from Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st MEU. 

The objective was a small collection of buildings near the beach.

The MEU Marines provided support by fire as the Thai Marines served as the assault force.

31st MEU Arrives for Cobra Gold 2013

02/15/2013: Approximately 1,000 Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit offloaded from three ships of the Navy’s Amphibious Squadron 11 to begin the multinational exercise Cobra Gold 2013 in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The unit was brought ashore using the Navy’s landing craft utility, landing craft air cushions, and the MEU’s amphibious assault vehicles, then transported via buses to multiple Thai military camps throughout the country.

USCG Rescue With Dauphin Helicopter

02/12/2013: The aircrew of an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter return after locating and rescuing a boater that had run aground Dec. 14, 2012, near Port Arthur, Texas.

A 33-year-old man was rescued by a Coast Guard aircrew when his boat ran aground, Friday, approximately 7 miles southeast of Port Arthur.The daughter of an employee from Dustin Gulf Seafood, reported the missing man to Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received the initial call from the daughter of an employee from Dustin Gulf Seafood, reporting that the man had not arrived at his usual time.

 “The guy usually parks in the area,” Petty Officer 1st Class Aaron Fojtik, a watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston, “and when he didn’t show up, they were concerned and called us.” 24-foot airboat and crew were launched from Coast Guard Station Sabine Pass and a rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston-Galveston. The aircrew located the boat and while searching the surrounding area, located the man, standing on land, waving his arms to signal the aircrew. The aircrew hoisted him aboard the helicopter and transported him to Beaumont Municipal Airport where EMS was standing by.“It’s always important to have a float plan,” said Fojtik. “If something does happen on the water, it helps us narrow down where to search, better focusing our efforts.”

U.S. Army South Host the 2013 Central American Regional Leaders Conference

02/07/2013: Army leaders from U.S. Army South, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Security Forces from Panama meet at Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston TX for the Central American Regional Leaders’ Conference.

During the conference regional partners present concerns and explore reasonable approaches in the areas of security, countering transnational threats and building partner nation capacity.

Republic of Korea Marine Corps Commandant Visits Okinawa
