Southern Jackaroo 2017 is a multi-lateral combined arms training activity between the U.S. Marine Corps, Australian Army, U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force that allows participants to train and share military tactics and skills.

Exercising Australian Ground Based ISR

06/07/2017:  Australian Army soldiers from 20th Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment provide the Australian Defence Force with an artillery spotting and tactical reconnaissance capability.

They form a significant component of the entire intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance collection capability available to deployed forces.

20th Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment uses the Shadow 200 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which carries a suite of sensors that includes high-resolution cameras and laser systems.

The Shadow UAV patrols high above troops on the ground to provide detailed real-time intelligence about enemy activity and terrain.

Aussie Pilot Awarded USMC Air Medal

06/06/2017: AUSTRALIAN ARMY BASE ROBERTSON BARRACKS, Darwin – Lt. Col. Brian Middleton, commanding officer of Marine Rotational Force Darwin, presented Australian Army Maj. Joel Domigan with the Air Medal with combat valor on May 26, 2017.

Domigan was recognized for his heroic actions as an AH- 1 Cobra pilot with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, 3rd Marine Air Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

RAF A400M in Nobile Jump Exercise

06/05/2017: Royal Air force A400M lands in Sibiu Airport on Friday (2nd June 2017) for NOBLE JUMP 2017 NATO’s exercise. 



The plane transported 37 British soldiers and 2 pallets of materiel.

British forces are the main contingent participating to NOBLE JUMP.

Australian Navy Working With Vietnam

06/06/2017: Developing deeper Defence relationships with Vietnam.

In 2017, the Australian Defence Force deployed a team of medical specialists to Exercise Pacific Partnership to work alongside Defence Force personnel and civilian medical practitioners from the United States, Great Britain and Japan in cities and provinces of Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

The Australian contingent included two Royal Australian Navy Medical Officers specialising in Dive Medicine who participated in an information exchange program with the United States Navy ad Vietnam People’s Armed Forces.

Pacific Partnership is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, and aims to enhance regional coordination in areas such as medical readiness and preparedness for man-made and natural disasters.

Australia has been involved in every iteration of Pacific Partnership since it was first started more than twelve years ago after the multinational Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief response to the 2004 tsunami event in Banda Aceh.
