Group Captain Jake Campbell explains the capability of the newly-installed Satellite Communications and Imagery Display suite inside an Air Force C-17A Globemaster. *** Local Caption *** On 20 May 2015, Exercise ‘Jericho Dawn’ at Defence Establishment Fairbairn saw the demonstration of a newly-installed Satellite Communications and Imagery Display suite inside an Air Force C-17A before senior Defence figures. The suite was used to stream live video shot by a Heron remotely piloted Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operated by No. 5 Flight over Woomera Prohibited Area in South Australia. The live stream from the Heron is being relayed in real-time via satellite to Distributed Ground Station Australia (Interim) located at RAAF Edinburgh for RAAF Air Intelligence Analysts to perform the processing, exploitation and dissemination of the live video via the defence computer network. The suite onboard the C-17A can be utilised inflight, and provides a significant increase to the utility of the airlifter by increasing the information available to passengers and crew in-flight.
