A team of Australian Defence Force service men and women is helping Afghanistan to develop a professional, capable and sustainable air force.
The Australians train, assist and advise their Afghan counterparts on command and control, armament and munitions, air operations, engineering, logistics and life support equipment maintenance.
Their efforts will assist the Afghan Air Force while it grows by 3,000 personnel, significantly expands its helicopter fleet, and adds a new intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform over the next five years.
The team is embedded within the Train Advise Assist Command – Air in Kabul.
Operation Highroad is the Australian contribution to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
Australia contributes about 300 Defence personnel to the train, advise and assist mission.
