USMC F-35’s Refueled on Way to Afghan Mission

Two U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II’s assigned to the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct an aerial refuel with a U.S Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker during a combat mission over Afghanistan, Sept. 27, 2018.

The F-35Bs conducted their first combat strike in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Exercise Singaroo

HMA Ships Stuart and Sirius have joined the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) corvettes RSS Valiant and Vigour for Exercise Singaroo, a two day maritime exercise in waters off Singapore.

The biennial exercise aims to develop a better understanding and working relationship between the Royal Australian Navy and the RSN in the conduct of maritime exercises, while providing the opportunity to enhance professional interaction between personnel from the two Navies.

HMA Ships Melbourne, Stuart and Sirius conducted a North East Asia deployment between 7 September – 9 November 2018 in support of international engagement and capacity building in the region.

Commando Amphibious Operations Course

Australian Army soldiers from the Commando Amphibious Operations Course conducted a training activity from Royal Australian Air Force C-130J Hercules aircraft into the waters off Manly, Sydney, in late-September 2018.

The students parachuted into the ocean on a stormy day and were then required to fight the swell and assemble their Zodiac inflatable boats before heading off on a practise mission.

Conducted by the Special Operations Training and Education Centre, the Commando Amphibious Operations Course is part of the commando reinforcement cycle series of training courses designed to train soldiers who have passed the commando selection course.

Established in September 2017, the Centre is responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, education and trade management of all Special Operations Command personnel.

Based at Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney, personnel oversee the conduct of all Special Operations Command training and education courses across Australia, the Centre transitioned from the Special Forces Training Centre in order to enable professional mastery across all Special Operations Command units.

Operation Resolute

The Australian Defence Force provides surveillance and response assets as part of the Australian Government’s ongoing efforts to protect its borders and offshore maritime interests.

Operation Resolute is the Australian Defence Force contribution to the whole of Government effort to protect Australia’s borders and maritime interests, known as Operation Sovereign Borders.

Defence assets assigned to the operation protect Australia from security threats including illegal maritime arrivals, piracy, compromise to bio-security, maritime terrorism and marine pollution.

At any given time, up to 600 Australian Defence Force personnel at sea, in the air and on land, are working to protect Australia’s borders and maritime interests alongside the Australian Border Force and other government agencies.

Maritime Border Command – a multi-agency taskforce within the Australian Border Force – commands the Defence assets as part of the whole of government effort.

Sunsuper Riverfire 2018

The Royal Australian Air Force supported the Brisbane Festival’s Sunsuper Riverfire on 29 September 2018 with a fly past of multiple aircraft.

Airforce fast jets – EA-18G Growlers, and a C-17A Globemaster aircraft took part alongside an aerobatic display by the Roulettes. 

The Navy Band entertained crowds at the Piazza at South Bank.
