Visiting the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum

05/18/2015: Second Line of Defense has focused on the Mighty Eighth during a visit to France to commemorate a crew, which crashed in France on July 4, 1943.

Located near Savannah, George one can visit the amazing National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.

Recently, service members from the United States, Germany, Italy and Canada visit the Mighty Eighth Air Museum in Pooler, Georgia on March 19, 2015 during Operation Skyfall 2015.

Operation Skyfall is a joint, multi-lateral combat camera subject matter expert exchange hosted by the 982nd Combat Camera Company, which takes place at multiple locations in Georgia.

Operation Skyfall is an event which focuses on interoperability of combat camera training and capturing Airborne operations with three partner nations and multi-service units. Includes soundbites from Canadian Corporal Aydyn Neifer, Canadian Forces Imagery Support Center.

Ospreys Support Nepal Aid Effort

05/15/2015: U.S. service members from Joint Task Force 505 drop off humanitarian aid and transport Nepalese service members using U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys, at Manthali, Nepal, May 8.

The Nepalese government requested assistance after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country April 25.

The U.S. government ordered JTF 505 to provide unique capabilities to assist Nepal.

U.S. Marines and Nepalese Soldiers Deliver Aid on MV-22 Osprey

05/15/2015: U.S. Marines and Nepalese soldiers deliver 4,000 pounds of supplies to include food, hygiene kits, and shelter from Kathmandu, Nepal to areas effected by the earthquake May 7 to support the international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation after the country was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

The Nepalese government requested the U.S. government’s help after the earthquake. U.S. Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force have come together with other U.S. services to form JTF 505, which works in conjunction with U.S. Agency for International Development and the international community, to provide unique capabilities to assist Nepal.

Visiting HMS Queen Elizabeth

05/09/2015: At the end of March 2015, Second Line of Defense visited HMS Queen Elizabeth in Scotland. 

These photos were shot during the visit by the RN/RAF team and are credited to them.

  • The first photo shows the ski jump on the flight deck for the F-35B.  The second photo is of the ski jump and a shot of the Hood Dock from which HMS Hood left to go after Bismarck and to which HMS Prince of Wales returned after the Bismarck was sunk.
  • The third photo is shot from the ski jump and looks down at the entire flight deck.
  • The fourth photo shows Robbin Laird with one of the HMS Queen Elizabeth team at the end of the flight deck.
  • The fifth photo shows several members of the team who provided the tour of the ship.
  • The sixth, seventh and eighth photos show the islands aboard the flight deck.
  • The ninth photo provides another shot of the flight deck; the tenth photo is a shot of the reconfigurable C2 spaces aboard the ship;; the eleventh photo shows the massive crane used in the course of construction.
  • And the final photo shows those who provided the tour for whom more than thanks are due for providing insights into a key element of evolving air and sea power.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CAG 17 Aboard USS Carl Vinson

05/05/2015:Aircraft assigned to Carrier Air Wing 17 conduct flight operations aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in the U.S. 5th area of responsibility.

The Carl Vinson Strike Group is deployed to the area supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, conducting maritime security operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, and theater security cooperation efforts.

Australian C-17 aid to Nepal

05/04/2015

05/04/2015: Two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-17A Globemaster aircraft arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, to deliver humanitarian and disaster relief stores and repatriate Australian nationals as part of OP Nepal Assist, on 30 April 2015.

The relief stores consisted of hygiene kits, tarpaulins, blankets and water purification tablets.

Both aircraft then flew evacuees to Bangkok.

Operation NEPAL ASSIST 2015 is the ADF’s contribution to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) led Australian Government response to the earthquake in Nepal.
